Canyoning & Ziplining in Bovec

Beyond rafting — Bovec's other adrenaline: canyoning down rock chutes and ziplining across a side valley. Seasons, what to expect, and how to book safely.

Bovec is the adventure capital of the valley, and rafting is only the headline act. When you want something wilder — or the river’s too high or fully booked — canyoning and ziplining are the local backups.

Canyoning

Canyoning means descending a narrow gorge the fun way: sliding down water-worn rock chutes, jumping into plunge pools, and abseiling the odd small drop, all in a wetsuit. The side gorges around Bovec (such as Sušec) have beginner-friendly canyons where no experience is needed — a guide leads you, provides the gear, and reads the water.

It’s cold, exhilarating and genuinely safe with a licensed operator. Expect a half-day, with a short walk in and a steady series of slides and jumps out.

Ziplining

For dry-land adrenaline, zipline parks near Bovec send you across a side valley on a series of steel cables, some of the longest and fastest in the country. It’s accessible to most reasonably fit people and a good option for mixed groups or poor river conditions.

Booking safely

  • Go with a licensed agency — they provide wetsuits, helmets, harnesses and guides.
  • Be honest about fitness and comfort with heights and cold water.
  • Season: roughly late spring to early autumn, depending on water and weather.

Pair it with

Stack canyoning or ziplining with rafting the Soča (mind the 2026 river permit, ~€18–21) for a full adventure day out of Bovec, then unwind at a safe river pool.
